  • Sas

Is this a rolling contract, or just a one off payment?

    • The British Newspaper Archive

Hi Sas, the 1 month subscription is sold on a continuous membership basis,
meaning it will continue until you cancel it. You can cancel at any time from
the ‘My Account’ section of the website.

      • Judith Parsons

where on the ‘my account’ section can you cancel? ive looked everywhere and i cant find it. this is beginning to feel like a con.

        • The British Newspaper Archive

Hi Judith, you’ll find it in the ‘Edit Details’ section of ‘My Account’. Simply untick the ‘Auto-renew my subscription’ box at the bottom of the form and then click the ‘Update details’ button.

Our customer support team will be able to help if you have any problems. They can be contacted by email at or by calling 01382 210100.

  • Jan Pedersen

Not really unlimited access when you put a cap on it, is it? It`s unlimited when I use my local library for access.

    • The British Newspaper Archive

Hi Jan, the fair usage policy applies to all of our subscription packages.

We’ve purposely chosen a very high number of newspaper pages (3,000 per month) so that it’s very unlikely you’ll ever hit it.

      • Jan Pedersen

100 pages per day when reading a newspaper isn`t particularly high. You don`t ever know exactly what you`d want to read until you see the page.

  • Patricia pinder

How can it be unlimited when I’ve just been told I have two more viewings when I viewed one yesterday. So I’ve payed £9.95 for three viewings. Disgusted.

    • The British Newspaper Archive

Hi Patricia, this doesn’t sound right. You get three free page views when you register, but if you’ve purchased the £9.95 1 month subscription, you’ll be able to view much more than this.

Our customer support team will be able to look at your account for you and see what’s happened. You can email them at or call 01382 210100.

  • Kelly Robinson

So is it “view as much as you like,” or is there a limit of 3,000 pages? Because if it’s the latter, the statement amounts to false advertising.

    • The British Newspaper Archive

Hi Kelly, both the 1 month and 12 month subscriptions are subject to our standard fair usage policy of 3,000 pages per month.

Realistically, very few customers go over this limit. It’s really designed to prevent wholesale stripping of pages for commercial gain rather than to penalise our customers.

  • J brown

I wonder if you could help me. I seem to have paid via my cc a years subscription of £71.96. I can’t understand how this has happened. I thought I was signing up for a free trial. I cannot afford this £71. 96

    • The British Newspaper Archive

Hi J, you can get in touch with our customer support team by emailing or calling 01382 210100.
