We hit another exciting milestone! A newspaper from every county in England.

We have reached a major new milestone in our project to digitise up to 40 million newspaper pages from the British Library’s vast collection of historic British & Irish newspapers.  Following the addition of a newspaper from the country’s smallest county, Rutland, the Archive now covers every corner of England as, for the first time, at least one title from each of the country’s 48 counties is now available to search and explore.  We have added 3,968 pages from the Rutland

New titles this month! February

We have added another fourteen brand new titles to the Archive this month. These include eight new titles for Scotland, six of these titles are for counties new to the archive and include coverage of the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides and the Isle of Skye. We have also added additional pages for 42 other titles!  The Archive now holds over 18 million pages of historic newspapers from the UK and Ireland. Click on each of the titles

Looking in Lloyd’s List

Among the oldest continuously published periodicals in the world, Lloyd’s List dates back to 1734. The Homeward Mail – News from the East

The British Newspaper Archive brings you news from India, China, and further East during the height of the British Empire.  The Homeward Mail from India, China and the East was first published in 1857 by Messrs. Smith, Elder, & Co. and provided Britain with news from its colonies in the East.  The publishing company also produced the first Dictionary of National Biography and worked with major authors such as Charlotte Brontë, George Eliot, Alfred Tennyson, and Arthur Conan Doyle.  Along

New Illustrated Titles Available

Recently The British Newspaper Archive has added a group of illustrated titles to our collection. These image rich newspapers stand apart from the others in The Archive, featuring both drawn illustrations and high-quality photographs. Your July British newspapers round-up

Since our last round-up, we’ve added a further 14 brand new titles and over 1.8 million new articles to the British Newspaper Archive.
