The Eruption of Krakatoa – 27 August 1883

At 10am on 27 August 1883, the volcano on Krakatoa erupted with four massive explosions, which virtually destroyed the entire island. It’s estimated that the explosions and tidal waves killed at least 36,000 people. The explosions at Krakatoa are considered to be the loudest in history, and it’s claimed that the explosions were heard up to a distance of 3,000 miles.
