5 comments On 9 million newspaper pages are now online
This is great but when can we see some more variation away from local newspapers? One prime and very hard to find source is the Volunteer Service Gazette. The Volunteer Rifle movement of the 19thC was patronised by royalty and lead to the formation of the territorial army in 1908. Established in 1859 and by 1880 there were over 220,000 members. The Volunteer Service Gazette is a rich source for family history but largely unknown. Please consider adding this to the archive.
Hi David, that’s a great idea, thank you. You can suggest the newspaper titles you’d like to see online via our feedback forum: http://help-and-advice.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/forums/243704-newspapers-we-should-add-next
We keep an eye on the suggestions that are getting the most votes and try to include them in our digitisation plan where possible.
I have previously posted information as you suggest on the feedback forum. As a resource though I believe it largely unknown and therefore unlikely to gain many votes, despte its undoubted value. It is a rich resource of local interest and documents the rise of a popular 19thC movement and political, military and technological advances in a rapidly changing world. http://help-and-advice.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/forums/243704-newspapers-we-should-add-next/suggestions/5990201-volunteer-service-gazette

Is there a way to restrict a search to newspapers added after a certain date? The bigger the archive gets, the harder it is to locate entries I haven’t already seen. It would be really useful if I could search just in the updates or additions of, say, the last three months, or the last six months. Maybe you can do this already, but if so I haven’t discovered how.
Hi Ben, thanks very much for your comment. It’s not possible to search in this way at the moment, but we’re aware that this would be a very useful development for our customers and have already started looking into a way to make this possible.
This of the most popular suggestions on our feedback forum (http://help-and-advice.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/forums/243685-search-improvements/suggestions/5754951-we-should-be-able-to-search-only-the-newpapers-tha)
