The special page that brought up the magic number on the old BNA odometer is a page from ‘The Burnley Express’ of Saturday 30 June 1945 – and you can view page 7,000,000 for FREE.
On this page, you can read all about Winston Churchill visiting Burnley – and you can view photos of the famous visit. You can also read some fascinating readers’ letters on the subjects of politics, democracy, wages, soldiers and brass bands. The page also contains photos and profiles of local servicemen, and an article on the cost of living and the need for decent pensions – plus ca change.

Laudable as this is, are there any plans to introduce some wider content than the regional newspapers. My particular interest is the Volunteer Rifle Movement of the 19th century. This was hugely popular and local interest articles will be found in many newspapers. How about adding the ‘Volunteer Service Gazette’ to the archive? This documents the movement from its earliest days and would be very useful to local and family historians.
I am sure there will be other such examples for differing fields of interest. From my perspective ‘The Engineer’ also springs to mind…

Thanks for your post, and apologies for the delay in replying to you.
At the moment, we believe it’s just regional newspapers. However, when people give us feedback about what content they would like to see on the site, we pass it on to the development team.
With the centenary of World War One taking place next year, we know there are plans to include more regional newspapers to cover the 1914 to 1918 period.
The general aim at the moment is to cover as much of the UK and Ireland as possible, so that all areas are covered.
We’re sorry that we can’t be more helpful on this at the moment.
