Hot off the press – new titles added this week

Our additions this week tipped us over the 24 million page mark at The Archive.  At the time of writing (it changes so fast these days!) we have 24,096,659 pages for your reading pleasure.  This week we’ve added four brand new titles, two for Ireland and two for England.

Our new joiners this week include The Bromyard News, this Herefordshire paper also carried news for west Worcestershire.  We plan to publish editions from 1883 to 1903.  By 1899 the paper was also describing itself as the ‘hop growers’ chronicle’.  Bromyard has a long tradition of hop growing and for some years held a hop festival.  Hops are most closely associated with the brewing of beer.

Also joining The Archive this week is The Social Review, ‘the leading journal of society and fashion in Ireland’.  Published between 1893 and 1901, the paper was published weekly on a Saturday with occassional special editions for events such as the Dublin Horse Show.  This title is essential for those interested in society and fashion in late nineteenth century Ireland, and is an excellent companion to Irish Society which was published from 1888 to 1924.

Updated Titles

This week we’ve added to ten existing titles.  We are particularly delighted to  have added significantly to one of our local London titles.  We have added twenty-five years to the Tower Hamlets Independent and East End Local Advertiser.  Previously we held from 1866 to 1870, we can now bring you issues up to 1910.  A weekly paper, it covered news from East London districts such as Stepney and Poplar.
