We have added an additional 75,144 pages to the Archive in the past week. Having added significantly to our Suffrage titles recently we are now turning our attention back to county titles. We have added two brand new titles this week and made updates to fourteen existing titles.
You can look forward to more suffrage and women’s lifestyle publications over the course of the year, and our latest new titles reflect this commitment to showcasing women’s history. We have added The Vote and The Mother’s Companion. The Mother’s Companion is typical of the literature aimed at women in the late nineteenth century. This paper was read by the generation of women who were later at the forefront of the suffrage movement. The paper has a mix of fiction, poetry and practical advice to mother’s on the management of their home and family. There were sections on dressmaking, gardening, and cookery. Readers were also introduced to notable women and charitable works. The paper was sold monthly, and then as bound volumes – we have scanned from bound volumes and broken the volume out into 12 monthly installments.

We have added years to a number of our existing titles this week. We have additions for Irish, Welsh and English papers. Our most significant additions this past week, in terms of years added, was to the Newcastle Evening Chronicle, 10 years added, and The Cambrian News to which we added 7 years.
Our coverage for the Newcastle Evening Chronicle now includes issues between 1914 to 1969. The paper is one of eight in the Archive which were published in Newcastle, in the north east of England. The Cambrian News is one of four newspapers we hold for west Wales.
