The Transit of Venus in 1874 – Sic Transit Gloria Mundi…

Just in case you’d forgotten about it, the Transit of Venus will be taking place on the 5th and 6th of June 2012.

What with all the Diamond Jubilee celebrations, unfortunately, this major astronomical event has been somewhat eclipsed by the Queen over the last few days.

We did two, quick search in the newspaper archive for ‘transit of Venus’ and ‘Venus in transit’ and, once again, we found scores of fascinating reports and stories about previous transits.

As the next transit will not take place until 2117, we thought it would be an idea to post a story about the transit that took place in 1874.
